A bill to authorize Idaho Fish and Game to build and maintain shooting ranges in the Gem State was introduced into the House last week.

House Bill 396 would authorize the Fish and Game commissioners to develop, operate and maintain public shooting ranges and to assist in the location or relocation of shooting ranges. It would also allow Fish and Game to consult with other agencies to identify land suitable for shooting ranges and to establish a funding mechanism to establish and maintain public shooting ranges in Idaho, according to the bill, which is supported by the National Rifle Association and its lobby group.

“The provision of safe places for law-abiding citizens to use their firearms is of paramount importance in a state like Idaho which has such a strong tradition of firearms ownership and use,” Brian Judy the state director for NRA-ILA said.
