ISP arrests at least 21 for DUI

Idaho State Police troopers arrested 21 people charged with DUI offenses from Thursday to Sunday, with six of those in Kootenai County.

Meanwhile, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office deputies cited three drivers for DUI over the holiday weekend.

The ISP will continue emphasis patrols — locating impaired drivers — through Sunday, and KCSO deputies will keep watch for drunken drivers, as well.

“It’s not so much about the number of arrests, but in keeping people safe,” wrote Lynn Hightower, ISP communications director.

The ISP publicizes its efforts to partner with law enforcement agencies throughout the state and the ITD Office of Highway Safety to remove DUI drivers from Idaho roadways.

Hightower said the more people know the patrols are out there, and if that prompts them to take a cab or have a designated driver, that’s fewer impaired drivers with the potential to cause injury crashes.
