DONATION: Don’t judge the amount

| December 20, 2020 1:00 AM

In response to the reader who criticized the Press for referring to a dollar donor (to the Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign) as “generous”: A one dollar donation from a struggling senior, a child, or an unemployed person, for example, is actually more generous than a hundred dollar bill from a person with a healthy bank account. Or perhaps that person also donates to church and charities and needy neighbors. Do we criticize the billionaire when she donates a million dollars? Probably not. Simply put: It is not our place to judge a person’s generosity based on the amount of her gift.
