TAXES: Look to Alaska

Last week, I saw that commissioner Chris Fillios, with a lot of sympathy for those of us seniors trying to live on fixed incomes, said he “gets it” but everybody in every state pays property tax.

Well Chris, it might surprise you to learn that Alaska is and has been a state since 1959.

And as a former 40-year resident of Alaska, I can assure you that those over 65 PAY NO PROPERTY TAXES on their principal residence.

Maybe Kootenai County should look into that.
