NOTICE FOR COMMENT USDA - Forest Service, Northern Region Idaho Panhandle National Forests Bonners Ferry Ranger District Boundary County, Idaho Westside Restoration Project -Environmental Assessment The Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are proposing to conduct forest management activities on public land in the Westside Restoration Project area and we invite your comments on the environmental assessment (EA). The project area is approximately 60,000 acres in size and is located within Boundary County, Idaho encompassing the Myrtle, Snow and Caribou Creek watersheds and Dodge Peak and White Mountain areas. The project area boundary encompasses all or portions of sections: T63N, 1W, Sec. 26-28, 31-35; T62N, 1W, Sec. 2-11, 14-23, 26-35; T62N, 2W, Sec. 7-36; T61N, 2W, Sec. 1-5, 9-12, 14-16, 21-22; T61N, 1W, Sec. 2-11, 14-15; T60N, 2W, Sec. 2-3, 11-13, 24-25, 30. Boise Meridian. We have identified 7,964 acres for potential harvest with an additional 2,538 acres of natural fuels prescribed burning, and 1,730 acres of precommercial thinning to improve forest health and resilience. Other proposed activities include the management of roads, recreation, invasive weeds, wildlife habitat, fish passage, and scenery. This project was developed in collaboration with the Kootenai Valley Resource Initiative to complement other landscape restoration work in the Lower Kootenai River Valley. As a Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program project, our team has been working with other landowners, the local community and organizations, and other agency partners in an all-lands approach to forest restoration with an emphasis on these watersheds.
