Fire destroys Post Falls home

A Saturday morning fire that destroyed a Post Falls home was deemed suspicious and the cause is under investigation.

Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Chief Chris Way said there were no injuries in the blaze at 2340 Miller Street that was called in shortly after 4 a.m.

Damage was estimated at $250,000.

Way said the initial caller said there were possibly people trapped inside the home.

“We responded immediately,” he said.

Firefighters were on the scene within minutes and found the home fully involved. Additional units from Coeur d’Alene and Northern Lakes responded to a second alarm.

Way said it was determined there were no occupants in the home. Because of the conditions, firefighters established a defensive fire position.

The blaze was under control about 4:45 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene until about 11:30 a.m.

Way said investigators have spoken to the family that lived there. The fire was called in by a friend of the family.

He said the fire is suspicious and is under investigation by both Kootenai County Fire and Rescue and the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office.
