United Way of North Idaho announced Monday the launch of a new survey for parents and caregivers of children ages birth to 5 in Kootenai and Bonner counties.

This survey seeks to understand local experiences with child care and preschool access and barriers. The survey is open through Sept. 4.

The survey is one aspect of Idaho's $3.3 million federal Preschool Development Grant Birth Through Five. Last December, the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children was awarded the one-year grant to focus on research, planning, collaboration and coordination of early childhood systems across the state. Idaho was one of six states/territories awarded funding for this initial planning grant.

The parent and caregiver survey is an essential piece in collaborating with various agencies and partners in support of Gov. Brad Little's goal to improve early literacy and school readiness by empowering parents, supporting educators and offering a mixed delivery system for early childhood that includes government-led programs as well as community-based approaches.

Participants can opt into a drawing for a $25 Walmart gift card in appreciation of their time.
