PHD: 33 new cases

COEUR d’ALENE — The Panhandle Health District reported 33 new coronavirus cases and attributed five more deaths to it Monday.

PHD reported 2,592 total cases, with 2,153 closed and 439 active. There are 20 people hospitalized due to COVID-19 in the PHD, and four are in critical care at Kootenai Health.

The total of deaths due to the coroanvirus is 38, PHD said, with 26 of those residents of Kootenai County, 11 in Shoshone County and one in Benewah. Four of the deaths were people in the 60-69 age group and 34 were over the age of 70.

Kootenai County now has 2,072 cases, while the number of active cases is 306, which is 0.14 percent of the county’s population.

Bonner County has 202 cases, Shoshone has 184, Benewah has 90 and Boundary has 42.

Health officials remind people to wear masks when in public and unable to be at least 6 feet from others, per the PHD’s mandate for Kootenai County, wash hands and practice social distancing.
