KAMALA HARRIS: Now you know

| August 19, 2020 1:00 AM

As a white female senior citizen, I made a promise to myself I would stand by Senator Harris as she braves through the muck of this election year.

How dare George Silva quote Martin Luther King while slamming Kamala Harris as being “irrelevant on any issue other than she is of color.” By stating that he knew “absolutely nothing about Kamala Harris, other than she is of color,” shows such disrespect.

Things to know about Kamala Harris:

• Born in Oakland, Calif., of parents from India and Jamaica. (Kamala Harris is a natural born citizen.)

• Parents immigrated to the U.S. to further their education, earning Ph.D.s.

• As an elementary student, she was part of Berkeley’s bussing integration program.

• Attended Howard University majoring in political science and economics.

• Graduated from the University California Hastings College of the Law.

• Hired as Deputy district attorney in Oakland.

• Elected district attorney of San Francisco (two terms).

• Elected attorney general of California (two terms).

• Elected U.S. Senator of California since 2017.

Truly Kamala Harris has the experience to govern at the highest levels of government. She was chosen because of her qualifications, one of which is her worldview as a woman of color. In fact, it was a bold move toward a more inclusive society.

It’s time to recognize the American Dream where people are judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin.
