LAWS: These are being ignored

| August 12, 2020 1:00 AM

I am just wondering how active law enforcement is related to a few issues that seem to be concerns of many that I talk to?

First: As I understand it, fireworks are illegal in Coeur d’Alene and Hayden. How many citations did either the Coeur d’Alene police or the sheriff write over the Fourth of July period for illegal fireworks use? My street was like a war zone. Not sparklers, but what sounded like cannons. For multiple days and nights, often for hours until after midnight. The explosions shook the windows. It gets worse every year, because people know that LE won’t/isn’t going to do anything.

Second: How many citations have either the PD, Sheriff or ISP written for using a handheld phone while driving since the law went into effect? It’s ridiculous! People hold up the already horrendous traffic by being oblivious to anyone but themselves, as well as dangerous, while talking on their phone.

How about enforcing the laws, or take them off the books? Laws don’t have their desired effect, or change behaviors, until people respect the potential for uncomfortable consequences. Do your jobs!
