MILLENNIALS: Note to our seniors

| August 5, 2020 1:00 AM

Hi there, Baby Boomers. Wanted to introduce myself on behalf of all Millennials and get reacquainted with what seems to be a conversation started off on the wrong foot.

We are nurses now, caregivers, educators and the soldiers fighting abroad for your freedom to continue to use your First Amendment right to bash us over situations we as one generation hold no control over. In regard to the uptick in COVID-19 cases among young people, I would encourage the more mature population of generations past to consider a few factors that have contributed to it.

Leisure hospitality and retail in Idaho accounted for more than 28% of new unemployment claims. Sixty percent of hospitality jobs are held by those age 35 and younger and 43% are in retail.

When we reopened, we were the first ones back. We apologize that our generation has seen financial ruin, two endless wars and now a pandemic with no end in sight.

I ask one thing. When you go out to eat and continue to bombard a generation for apparent ill behavior or lack of care, please remember we are no longer teenagers but adults like you with families to care for. We’re doing jobs that put us at health risk so you might enjoy going out and pretending the world has not changed while giving rudimentary complaints.

Sincerely, everyone in Coeur d’Alene under 35.
