Extra, extra: Let’s polish these gems
If you haven’t browsed in The Well-Read Moose, you’ve really missed something.
Alas, you can’t browse to your literary heart’s content in the Riverstone-based bookstore right now because of that blasted virus. But here’s what you can do today: You can support this precious independent book store by browsing its website — wellreadmoose.com — and ordering stuff that you can pick up curbside, have shipped or delivered. They’re taking calls Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., too: 208-215-2265
Today is Support Idaho Gems Day, as decreed by Sen. Jim Risch, Gov. Brad Little and a host of local and state leaders determined to help keep small businesses like The Well-Read Moose alive.
According to the good senator, governor and commerce crusaders, Idahoans are invited to Support Local Gems by giving their business to their favorite local shops and restaurants. Idahoans can shop at small businesses online, purchasing gift cards for future use or for loved ones, ordering take-out or delivery from local restaurants, writing a review online, posting on social media about a local business, or simply saying thank you.
It might sound trivial or corny. Many of you reading this have for years been faithful to local retailers anyway, understanding that they are not just our friends and neighbors, but they provide jobs, support infrastructure and public safety through their taxes, help support local nonprofits and much, much more.
North Idahoans have started banking their stimulus checks from Uncle Sam. For many, food, rent and other essential expenses are top priorities. But for those who have something left over — and for the many residents who can afford to support local businesses anyway — today is a good day to make a little extra effort.
Who do you love? Remind them today.
