Meals, coffee for first responders

| April 23, 2020 1:13 AM

Police officers, firefighters and health care workers are continuing to receive gifts for their efforts in these coronavirus times.

Starting today, they can order a free to-go meal at Le Peep in Coeur d’Alene. And also this morning, from 8 to 10, they can get a free coffee at Created Coffee, 1803 N. Third St.

Taylor Woodman, an insurance agent for Country Financial in Coeur d’Alene, said she partnered with Le Peep, 1884 Bellerive Lane, to open a tab for police officers, firefighters, and health care workers to order a takeout meal for free.

The fund has $2,500 — donated by Woodman and Country Financial — to cover those meals and will continue until it’s out.

She sees it as a way to help local businesses affected by the government-ordered shutdown due to the coronavirus, and pay tribute to those on the front lines.

“We want to do something to help out during this time,” Woodman said.

Le Peep owners David and Maggie Kemp said their restaurant closed March 19 and they had to lay off 41 employees. They will reopen for curbside service today at 8 a.m.

David Kemp said they were approved for the Paycheck Protection Program and were able to rehire employees.

“We’re kind of like a big family here,” he said.

When Woodman approached them with the program, they quickly signed on.

“We love the idea of giving back to the community,” David Kemp said.
