Edward Inez Moreno, 61

It’s with a heavy heart that we announce Edward Inez Moreno, 61, passed away peacefully in his Dalton Gardens home during the early morning hours of Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020.

Ed was born on May 5, 1958, in Santa Barbara, Calif., to Aurelio “Cheevers” Moreno and Socorro “Coco” Moreno. He had two younger brothers, Alex and Steve. Ed graduated from Bishop Garcia Diego High School in 1976 and his family moved to Moscow, Idaho, in 1977, where they opened a restaurant, Moreno’s Sea Swiper.

In 1987, Ed and his father opened Eduardo’s Mexican Restaurant on East Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive behind Peabody’s Lounge. They commuted from Moscow daily for six weeks before securing enough money to rent an apartment in town. Then, in 1988, they rooted the Moreno family in their current Dalton Gardens home. It was in 1989 that they moved into the larger Peabody’s building and eventually purchased the property where Eduardo’s Mexican Restaurant and Lounge became a mainstay of the Coeur d’Alene restaurant community. Fajita Friday and Ed’s Cinco de Mayo birthday bash were two of many joyful events celebrated by Eduardo’s loyal and cherished community.

During his time of leadership at the family-owned restaurant, Ed took pride in knowing his customers on a first-name basis and formed many relationships that he would treasure all his life. His work ethic, personability and kindheartedness inspired many others.

In 1989, Ed married Diane (Gillespie) Moreno in Coeur d’Alene. During their 19 years of marriage, Ed and Diane raised their four children, Zach, Drew, Blake and, Demi with love and wisdom. Ed was immensely proud of his children and spoke of their accomplishments to anyone who would listen. Attending his kids’ extracurricular events and hosting family barbecues were among his favorite things to do.

After Eduardo’s closed in 2007, Ed worked in various positions where he continued to expand his broad network of friends, which heavily contributed to his happiness and well-being. He had a knack for making people laugh with his unique sense of humor and his optimism was infectious. His devotion to God was unwavering and he was proud to profess his faith.

Ed spent his final years in the company of his mother and children daily. He loved working on his car, chopping wood, landscaping his yard and watching every action movie he could. His greatest achievement was raising his four children to thrive and be successful in a world where they now carry forth their father’s traditions and values.

He is survived by his mother, Socorro; brothers Alex and Steve; sons Zachary, Andrew and Blake; and daughter, Demitria.
