Rathdrum woman arrested for homicide

| April 17, 2020 10:44 AM

Police arrested a Rathdrum woman this week for the alleged murder of a newborn.

On April 14, detectives with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office major crimes unit were called to investigate a woman and a deceased baby who had been transported to Kootenai Health by another woman.

When detectives arrived, evidence reportedly showed that the baby may have been alive at birth and that the birth mother may have been responsible for the baby’s death.

Following an investigation, evidence collected from the residence and hospital, interviews and an autopsy, detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Elizabeth B. Keyes, 22, of Rathdrum.

She was booked into the Kootenai County Jail on April 16 for one count of murder in the first degree.

This is an ongoing investigation.
