Man accused of burglarizing storage units
Hayden — A California man was arrested for allegedly burglarizing units in a storage facility north of Hayden.
Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a burglary in progress at Little Tree Storage yesterday morning. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies contacted Reese J. Matthews, 43, of Manteca, Calif., inside one of the storage units.
Over a period of at least a month, Matthews had allegedly burglarized storage units within the facility, police said. Matthews also reportedly placed his own locks on units that did not belong to him, in an attempt to disguise that they had been burglarized, as well as to give him continued access.
Detectives confirmed at least 10 storage units had been burglarized. Several items belonging to a victim were in the bed of Matthew’s truck.
Matthews was arrested for burglary and grant theft. He was booked into the Kootenai County Jail.
During the investigation, detectives located a large amount of stolen property in another storage facility that Matthews was using. Detectives are asking individuals that have storage units at Little Tree Storage to check their units and ensure they have not been burglarized.
Additionally, Matthews may have been selling stolen property using the “OfferUp” app. Detectives ask anyone who has had dealings with Matthews to contact Detective Meehan at (208) 446-2121 or by email at pmeehan@kcgov.us.
