Always time to clean up

What do you do when you’re bunkered in during a pandemic? Why, you try not to make fun of false teeth. Then you try to share something uplifting — and we don’t mean lower dentures.

On April 16, 1942, while a world war was raging, locals kept an eye on the international news but their focus never completely left their homes, neighborhoods and community.

The banner headline says, “Coeur d’Alene launches clean-up drive to enter on expansion era.” Then residents are urged to make Coeur d’Alene “more beautiful.”

The news angle was that just days before this article, The Press declared that Farragut was going to be home to a massive, $30 million naval station. A regional population boom was expected, and with it, perhaps, an infusion of prosperity.

Hence the desire to declare a pick-up day, a paint day, a health day, a vacant lot day and so on.

You know, things we could be doing right now if we decide to use some down time wisely.
