EASTER: Something to reflect on

| April 12, 2020 1:00 AM

Today is Easter Sunday. Christians celebrate this as the holiest day of the year. This year is going to be different. Most churches will be empty. Why is this happening?

The answer to this question is found in several places in scripture. Let’s take a look at some of them.

Exodus 20:3-5 “You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a carved image. You shall not bow down to them or serve them.” We have substituted false gods for the one true God. I don’t see any of our false gods saving us from this calamity!

We see men and women on the news who think they have all the answers to this virus. Jeremiah 9:23-24, Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the lord.”

He told his people what to do in 2 Chronicles 7: 14 “If my people, who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”

Easter is to be remembered for Jesus Christ who came to Earth to suffer and die on the cross to save us from our sins. In John 14:6-7 Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Let us reflect on the real significance of this day since we do not have the normal distractions (ex. the Easter bunny and egg hunts).
