Steve Cameron Blog: Sunday, April 5, 2020: The readers write

| April 5, 2020 8:23 AM

Still here.

Yep, we’ve wrapped up another week in isolation, and from what I can tell ...

Everyone’s doing okay.

According to the medical people, though, it’s early yet.

So all those ideas, projects, things to do with the kids and forth – better space them out so you don’t go blank some day and think: “What do we do now?’

In the meantime, Sundays will be times for you to speak up on the blog.

I’m going to try to pick a variety of things here, and please don’t be upset if your own email or Facebook post isn’t listed.

We can only run a few per week.

And before we even start, let’s say it was no surprise that I heard most about two subjects: “Tiger King,” the totally nuts Netflix series; and of course, the brilliant and determined Gracie Harrison, our 11-year-old brain surgery survivor.

There were too many emails about Gracie for me to pick just one, but let’s say your vote that she’s terrific was unanimous.

Rather than a few gushing emails, I’ve included a picture of Gracie and her sister, Bella, with their new pet hedgehog.

Right ...

Of course, these two would want a hedgehog.

Opinions were predictably divided on “Tiger King,” which some of you enjoyed, some found disgusting, and some didn’t really know what the hell to think.

Kiki Miller wrote: “Trying to suffer through it.”

Now there’s a commentary on ...

Well, something.

Maybe that we need Netflix just to pass the time in lockdown.

Then there was the ideal comment from Marvin Sears, which gives you an idea of the opposite feelings this series created.

“My wife loved it,” Marvin wrote. “I watched pieces, but I have a hard time watching a bunch of garbage people doing (deleted) things... so I did not like it.’

One final thought: I got plenty of feedback from folks who thought the humans in “Tiger King” were awful, but they loved seeing the magnificent animals.

So that’s “Tiger King,” and I’d say the balloting I got was about two-thirds against, and the rest grimly fascinated.

Right, what else this week?

On the issue of toilet paper (it’s mandatory that we at least MENTION toilet paper), Debra Raymer checked in with this story:

“I wonder if you had heard about the lady who gave birth to a baby girl in the toilet paper aisle two weeks ago today at a Walmart in Springfield, Mo. Seriously!

“I’m not sure if she was fighting over the last 4-pack when her water broke or what (haha), but there was no time to get to the hospital.

“There happened to be a labor and delivery nurse in the store at the time who assisted until the firemen got there. “

“No word on if she had the baby in one arm and some TP in the other as they took her out on the gurney.”

Surely she did, Debra.

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Jeske weighed in with opinions on several subjects, including some semi-graphic theories on what men and women DO with toilet paper (and hand-washing afterward), and maybe we’ll unravel that issue another time.

But I know plenty of people will agree with Jeffrey’s take on those crowds of beach-goers…

“My question: Why do they not lock these damn kids down and/or at least tell them if they want to go to the beach in Florida, to just stay there?

“Come on, kids, fun on the beach and all that. Or, perhaps, lock them up in the county jail, an excellent cessation program for all addictions that ail you.”

And finally for today, just a note that I’m going to keep politics out of this blog…so I won’t be printing any partisan opinions.

I’m hoping we’ll all just get along and see the end of this pandemic.

There are plenty of political debates going on elsewhere, so you don’t need me adding to that fire.

I’ve said my piece on wearing masks and ...

That’s all, folks!
