We pray this good shepherd changes his tune

God bless Tim Remington.

And may He lock Tim’s doors.

Pastor Tim Remington held live church service at The Altar Church in Coeur d’Alene on Sunday, thinking he’s defying the governor while serving The Governor.

Remington is doubling these days as a state representative appointed by Gov. Brad Little — the man whose mandate he flagrantly ignored Sunday — to fill out the term of John Green, a convicted felon who’s running for Kootenai County sheriff.

Sound unreal? The Book of Revelations can hardly beat this local plot line.

To be clear, Pastor Tim is a miracle on two legs after being shot six times in his church parking lot four years ago. That he’s recovered enough to preach one day and legislate the next is affirmation of a powerful persona.

Remington also has received well-deserved acclaim for his effective work with people battling addictions. In so many ways, Tim Remington is a man to be admired.

But Remington’s mania for minor martyrdom misses the mark. If you watch the video of his sermon on YouTube, you’ll see that he’s making not just a religious point, but a disturbing political one — a stance that is perilously misguided and horribly dangerous to Tim’s lambs.

The belief here is that the Almighty does not want His children to get sick and die. Even more than that, it’s hard to conceive a God who would want His children to go out unnecessarily and sicken others, leading to the death of innocents on a broad scale.

Yet in Remington’s view, apparently, we are sinners in the hands of an angry God, so spreading germs in faithful company is not just to be forgiven, but encouraged.

Those eager to hasten the end times are certainly welcome to their viewpoints, but they are not welcome to bring on “God’s wrath” through their inhumane actions. If God is loving, merciful and wise, as many believe, perhaps He will instill in Pastor Remington a new vision. And it will appear in video, not in person.
