SPIRIT LAKE — It had all the feel of a district playoff match.

The intensity, the play, and the weather.

Joao dos Santos scored two goals for the Intermountain League-leading Timberlake Tigers in a 3-1 win over the Bonners Ferry Badgers on Thursday night at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field at Timberlake High.

Timberlake snapped Bonners Ferry’s streak of 13 straight district titles last year, capturing its first district title and advancing to the state tournament for the first time in program history.

“It was a very aggressive game,” Timberlake coach Steve Michael said. “There were a lot of hits and it was kind of a mess of a game. Bonners brought an up-tempo kind of game, and it took us a while to adjust to that, but we were able to take care of the game.”

Timberlake (10-0-1, 8-0 IML) hosts Orofino on Oct. 4.

First half — 1, TL, own goal, 3:00. 2, TL, Joao dos Santos (unassisted), 14:00. 3, BF, Foster, 23:00. Second half — 4, TL, dos Santos (unassisted), 72:00.

Shots on goal — BF 10, TL 8.

Saves — BF, unknown, 3; TL, Nate Anderson, 7.

Moscow at Post Falls, ppd., lightning

POST FALLS — Thursday’s nonleague match between the Bears and Trojans was postponed due to lightning in the area of Post Falls High.

According to Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson, school officials hope to reschedule the game.

“The first strike came as we were warming up,” Lawson said. “The rule is, if you see lightning and hear thunder within 30 seconds, you must clear the field. Once that happens, you need to wait 30 minutes. By the time the last one hit about 4:40 p.m., and with the wait and having to warm up again, we (the coaches and officials) had to make an executive decision and there just wasn’t enough time to make it happen.”

Post Falls (7-0, 3-0 5A Inland Empire League) travels to Coeur d’Alene on Saturday.

GRANGEVILLE — Lucca Correa scored both goals for the Panthers, including the tying one midway through the second half, as the visitors tied the Bulldogs in Intermountain League play.

“The first half we struggled a little bit trying to get our play on a smaller field,” said Charter coach Justin Nitti, who moved up a third forward in the second half. “We needed some more attacking, and it allowed us to push forward and get some more possession.”

Coeur d’Alene Charter (6-3-1, 4-3-1 IML) plays host to Orofino on Saturday at The Fields at Real Life Ministries in Post Falls.

First half — 1, Grange, Aidan Acton, 16:00. 2, CCA, Lucca Correa, 19:00. 3, Grange, Josh Nichols, 36:00. Second half — 4, CCA, Correa, 64:00.

RATHDRUM — After a brief lightning delay prior to the game at Sunrise Rotary Field, the Vikings and Hawks played to a nonleague draw.

Sammi Penick scored an unassisted goal for Lakeland in the 27th minute, then Jordan Roth scored for Coeur d’Alene on an assist from Holly Hudson to tie the match in the 33rd minute.

“I was really proud of my girls,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “We’re getting toward the end of a five-game-in-seven-day spread, and we’re battling illnesses, but we controlled most of the match. We couldn’t finish the opportunities we had.”

The game was delayed 15 minutes from its original start time of 4:30 p.m. due to lightning in the area.

Jaquelyne Pluid had 29 saves for Lakeland (1-6-3), which travels to Medical Lake on Saturday.

Post Falls 1

MOSCOW — With his team late in the midst of a stretch of six games in 12 days, Post Falls coach Steve Mills opted to limit the playing time of his starters in the nonleague game.

“We are just really feeling the effects of five games in a week and a half,” Mills said. “So many of them are either sore or sick that tonight we decided it would be best for the girls to give the starters really limited minutes. We still have the Coeur d Alene game on Saturday and Lewiston next Tuesday before we get a short break.

“Some of those nonstarters haven’t had much playing time in the last few weeks so it was really nice to see them get a lot of quality time on the field,” he said. “Kayla Walters and Teagan Chatterton did a really good job filling in.”

Kaylee Moate scored on an assist from Morgan Rust in the 76th minute for Post Falls (3-5-2), which plays host to Coeur d’Alene on Saturday.

SPIRIT LAKE — After receiving a quick halftime pep talk, the Tigers scored three unanswered goals in the second half to beat the Badgers in an Intermountain League match.

“It was senior night, so there was already a lot of excitement and emotion,” said Timberlake coach Steve Michael, whose team trailed 1-0 at halftime. “I don’t know if the girls didn’t have a good warmup, but we came out flat. We kind of needed to get the kids prepared for the second half because they weren’t mentally prepared. But the second half was a much different match. I was proud of how the girls responded. I coached them up a lot at the half, and was proud of how they responded and made the adjustments.”
