- Gov. Brad Little has ordered all U.S. and Idaho flags in the state be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, to honor 29-year old Army Sergeant First Class Dustin B. Ard, who died Aug. 29, from wounds sustained during combat operations in Afghanistan. He was the son of former Ammon, Idaho, Mayor Bruce Ard.

- The Coeur d’Alene Marathon, taking place next year on May 24, has been certified by USA Track and Field as a qualifying event for the Boston Marathon. Information and registration at www.nsplit.com/coeur-dalene-marathon-2020/.

- A full moon on a Friday the 13th only happens every 20 years and this Friday, the 2019 Harvest Moon will be the last full moon on a Friday the 13th until 2049. It precedes the first official day of fall, or Fall Equinox, which is Sept. 23.

- An Idaho driver who struck and killed a young couple as they strolled down a Fruitland sidewalk last year has pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder. Jason Lee Verwer made the plea Tuesday at the Payette County Courthouse. He faces up to 10 years in prison for each count when he is sentenced in January.
