Cold laser taking health care to new heights!
Low level lasers are the cutting edge of healthcare. Low level laser therapy, or LLLT for short, has been used worldwide for more than 50 years. There are now more than 2,000 published studies on LLLT and amazingly, zero negative side effects have been reported. And consequently, the Erchonia laser we utilize in our office was the first laser company to get an FDA clearance on Jan. 17, 2002, through clinical trials. We know lasers are traditionally designed to cut and cauterize. These are referred to as “hot” lasers. LLLT uses a cold laser. This simply means that this category of laser does not generate heat. What it does generate is a proven and effective method for increased healing in the body.
Lasers work on two main principles: they increase cellular regeneration and increase cell communication. Your cells require energy to heal and LLLT specifically works at a cellular level. Human cells produce a chemical known as adenosine triphosphate, or ATP, to run the body and heal tissue. All your body’s activities need ATP for use — it’s like gas to a car. LLLT stimulates the mitochondria of our cells. The mitochondria are nicknamed the “powerhouse” of the cell because it produces ATP. LLLT stimulates the mitochondria to produce higher amounts of ATP. With more ATP at the cellular level, tissues heal 66% faster, according to FDA studies, and therefore relief comes faster.
Research has shown that use of the LLLT increases the energy that is needed in the cell to maintain health, regenerate and heal after injuries. Severely injured cells sometimes lose their ability to communicate with each other and the LLLT helps to restore this vital communication. Studies show that LLLT promotes restored health by stimulating nerve function, stimulating cell growth, improving cell regeneration, removing the underlying causes of ill-health by decreasing inflammation, increasing oxygen and blood flow, promoting muscle calcium uptake, reducing fibrous tissue formation, stimulating the production of endorphins and increasing neurotransmitter release.
Since your whole-body needs ATP, you may receive alternative benefits from being treated with LLLT. This is true with many alternative therapies. It’s not only the area being treated, but benefits may be felt throughout the body. The list of symptoms being treated by LLLT is growing daily. The list includes, but is not limited to acute and chronic pain, neuropathy, neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, fibromyalgia, nerve and disc pain, carpal tunnel, sciatica, sports injuries, scars and scar tissue and wound and surgical healing — including wounds related to diabetes.
The potential for new applications is endless. Studies are being conducted around the world as we speak with the hopes that it can help treat a variety of ailments and conditions, including stroke recovery, spinal cord injury, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s Disease and Autism, to name a few.
