TRAILS: Use proper etiquette

| September 4, 2019 1:00 AM

I’m writing to express my strong support for the letter “TRAILS: Ears and bicycle law” submitted by Kay Lynn Sands on Aug. 28. Having been a road bike rider since 2005 and logging 3,000 to 4,000 miles per year, I recently relocated to Post Falls from Bellevue.

I have been very disappointed in the lack of road etiquette displayed by the majority of bike riders in the area. The three simple words: “on your left” seem to be beyond the reach of most riders I’ve encountered, even the ones who appear to know better. The issue is most dangerous on the trails in the area where voice acknowledgment of a riders presence is nearly totally absent.

I feel fortunate to have been informed early in my riding experience about proper etiquette by the Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle. More needs to be done by the local riding community here to improve the safety of fellow riders and especially trail walkers.
