St. Maries second at districts, headed to state play-in match

GENESEE — The top-seeded St. Maries Lumberjacks swept the Orofino Maniacs 26-24, 25-21, 25-21 in Match 2 before falling 16-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-17 in the deciding match of the best-of-3 2A District 1-2 championship series at Genesee High on Wednesday.

In Match 2, Allie Brebner had 14 digs and two aces for St. Maries. Jayden Martin had nine kills, Mackenzie Hammond 22 assists and Kirsten Miller two blocks for the Lumberjacks.

In the deciding match, Brebner had 21 digs and four aces, Hammond 20 asists and Miller six kills for St. Maries (10-16), which moves to a state 2A play-in match against the District 4 champion on Saturday at Timberline High in Boise.

Orofino (8-10) advances to state starting next Friday at Lakeland High, facing the runner-up — either Parma or Weiser — from District 3 (Boise area).

PLUMMER — Arianna Havier-Gorr had four aces and Destiny Seago had three aces for the Knights in a 25-4, 25-14, 25-17 win over the visiting Warriors in a 1A Division II District 1 tournament play-in match at Ron Miller Court.

“The girls were playing really loose and having a good time out there,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “Overall, we had our best serving outing at 87.5 percent as a team. Kria (Peters) served nine straight points in the first set and really got things going.”

Tenley Lambert had 11 kills, Peters 14 assists for Lakeside (7-13), which advances to the district tournament on Saturday, facing top seeded Clark Fork at 1 p.m.
