Staybridge Suites Hotel to open Tuesday

“Comforted, connected and welcome to be part of the community” is the emphasis of Staybridge Suites Hotel that is opening Tuesday at the entrance to Riverstone.

The five-story place has 96 one- and two-bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens, work spaces and storage areas. The hotel amenities include a fitness room, guest laundry, free Wi-Fi, a business center, hot breakfast buffet, meeting room, firepit, barbecue, indoor pool and a heated outdoor spa. It is pet friendly and has extended parking beyond neighboring McDonald’s.

It has a small convenience store, and with a theme of “Work, relax and play” it has a social time (5:30-7 p.m.) with beer and wine three days a week. Carl Brown is general manager, and Melody Forsmann is director of sales.

Monarch restaurant opens Wednesday

A casual ramen shop, Monarch restaurant opens Wednesday at 1401 N. Fourth St. (former location of Syringa, now at 1710 N. Fourth).

The menu includes specialties, build-your-own and noodle dishes with vegetarian, gluten-free options, beer and wine. Josiah Black and Sarah Burk lead a staff of about 10 with hours 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Phone 208-966-4230. It has seating for 46 with eight at the bar.

Owners Viljo and Autumn Basso named all their Fourth Street places with Idaho state symbols of Monarch (insect), Syringa (flower), Bluebird (bird) and White Pine (tree). They also had owned the Garnet (gem) Cafe. Phone the Monarch at 208-966-4230.

The Prairie Barn opens Tuesday

Offering specialty paints, decorating items and classes on painting, The Prairie Barn opens Tuesday in the lower level of Midtown Plaza at 1034 N. Third St.

Owners Dave and Diana Baker are expanding their business from their 6-year-old store in Rathdrum. They offer an elite line of chalk mineral paint from Dixie Belle Paint Co.

Red Bird Theater at Fairground Center

A longtime dream of Daniel and Marie Hunt, who met and fell in love while they were in a musical together, Red Bird Theater is now in Suites 13 and 14 of Fairground Center at 4055 Government Way.

She has written several stage plays, including “H.O.A.” presented at the Kroc Center, and offers classes in the rehearsal space beginning in February and offices.

The Hunts will offer large-scale musicals, original plays, improv and interactive theater, which will include auditions at 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday for a Victorian Christmas Party and “The Scrooge and Marley Annual Christmas Ball.” Phone 208-964-0658. Check www.redbirdcda.com.

- Alpine Animal Hospital (now on Best Avenue) is building a new place on Kathleen west of Mango Tree.

- A sign on property in the northwest corner of U.S. 95 and Wyoming Avenue says “Equipment Hayden” and “Landlocked Marine.”

- Coeur d’Alene Paving and CDA Redi Mix are building a new place at 3110 N. Government Way.

- The Bier Haus will be in the former Camera Corral building at 515 Sherman.

- STCU will open a branch in Rathdrum later in the year.

- A Wake Up Call Coffee place will be in the former Taco Time area at 2517 N. Fourth.

- The new Bakery by the Lake will be on Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive.

- Aesthetica Skin & Beauty Bar will be at 1113 E. Sherman. Holaday & Co. with soaps and lotions will be at 1109 Sherman in November.

- AutoZone is building a new place at Highway 54 and Sylvan Lane in Athol.

- A new pub-eatery will open next to Vertical Earth on East Sherman.

- A Burger King is under construction at 3827 N. Ramsey (just south of Kathleen).

- Coeur d’Alene Vision Source will move from 850 Ironwood to a new building at 3879 N. Schreiber Way in November.

- A new building for Idaho Central Credit Union is under construction at 1327 W. Appleway.

- Bi-Mart will open a new store in the former Stein’s Family Foods building at 16102 N. Highway 41 in Rathdrum.

- Seasonal store Spirit Halloween is open in Silver Lake Mall. It has costumes and accessories for adults and kids and is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 to 6 Sunday.

- The former Burger King building at 216 Appleway has been sold to another fast-food vendor. Rumors are it’s Carl’s Jr., which would move.

- The new Hardwick Hardware is under construction at 3820 E. Mullan in Post Falls.

- Among new businesses in the commercial area of the new Northern complex at Ramsey and Hanley will be a Pokeworks eatery with Hawaiian food.

- Watch for an interesting development just north of the Government Way Safeway. The developer already has put in a cool water feature and evidently plans to have a coffee stand, car lot and rock shop.

- At one of the downtown intersections, on the “Press button for signal” pedestrian crossing sign, the “on” of “button” has been deleted. Heh heh.
