Lake City d.

Post Falls

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City beat Post Falls in three and four sets, respectively, during 5A Inland Empire League play. But the second-seeded Timberwolves needed a comeback from a deficit early in the fifth set Saturday to stave off the third-seeded Trojans 26-28, 25-15, 21-25, 25-16, 15-13 in the first round of the 5A Region 1 tournament.

Janae Rayborn had 16 kills for Lake City (19-11), which plays at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. for the regional title. Nellie Reese had 17 assists and three aces, Ella Hosfeld 22 assists, Kiki Cates 16 digs, Jaya Miller 14 digs, Brenna Hawkins three blocks, Tanai Jenkins two blocks.

“This was by far their best game,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said of Post Falls. “He (Trojans coach Matt Barkley) came in with a good game plan. His team executed, and they played scrappy defense. We had some consistency errors, but they gritted it out and made some big plays and big stops on defense when they needed to.”

Post Falls (10-13) plays host to Lewiston on Tuesday at 6:30 in a loser-out match.

Wallace d.

Lakeside

WALLACE — The Miners swept the Knights 25-23, 25-20, 25-19 in North Star League play at Kirby Krulitz Court.

Statistics were not available.

“We did all right, but we killed ourselves with our serving,” Lakeside coach Brad Veile said. “We served 73 percent, which was our biggest downfall. Wallace played a strong match, and served really well and played their game.”

Lakeside (6-13) will host Kootenai on Wednesday in a 1A Division II District 1 play-in match at 6 p.m., with that winner advancing to face top seeded Clark Fork next Saturday. Mullan will face Genesis Prep in the other semifinal match.
