LEWISTON — Junior Nikolai Braedt of Sandpoint broke the school record and was the top local boys finisher in second place in 15 minutes, 35 seconds, followed by a flood of Bulldogs, to win the boys team title at the Inland Empire Classic at Lewiston Orchards on Saturday.

Jett Lucas was third, Gabe Christman fourth, Seth Graham fifth and Keegan Nelson eighth for Sandpoint, which ran away with the team title 22-98 over Lewiston.

“The varsity boys won with a very low score, but more impressive is their team pack time of 16:01, breaking the team school record,” Sandpoint boys coach Matt Brass said. “The boys’ times are one of the state’s best right now.”

Braedt broke the previous school record held by Sam Levora, who ran a 15:48 in 2012.

Carter Gordon of Lake City was 10th.

Clara Stephens of Lake City was the top local girls finisher, coming in second in 18:58. Teammate Angelyca Chapman was third for the Timberwolves, who finished runner-up to Sandpoint for the girls team title. Paige Davidson finished fifth for Sandpoint, which edged Lake City 53-61 for the girls team title.

“The varsity girls executed the race plan and ran intelligently on a technical course with many turns,” Sandpoint girls coach Angie Brass said.
