Janice ‘Jan’ Johnson, 74

Janice “Jan” Johnson, 74, died on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, in the city of her birth, Coeur d’Alene. Jan was born April 10, 1945, to Ted and Mabel Foss, and was the youngest of two children. She studied various instruments, including the piano, violin and clarinet. After graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1963, she attended Idaho State University and later, North Idaho College, as a nursing student.

Jan married James “Jim” Johnson in 1971 and had a daughter, Janaira, in 1977.

Jan pursued many interests — including horseback riding and fishing — in the years she and her family lived on Lake Pend Oreille. She and her husband relocated to Darby, Mont., in 1995. There they made many friends and Jan took up a career in real estate while she established her own business, the Montana Trading Company, with her best friend and business partner, BJ Drummond.

Jan and her husband moved back to the area in 2018, in order to be closer to family.

She loved to have fun, play rummy and laugh with her friends and family. She will be greatly missed.

Left to honor Jan and remember her love are her husband of 48 years, Jim Johnson; her children, Tami Johnson, Jessica (Mike) Webster, Jane Rufenacht and Janaira (Ruben) Morales; brother-in-law, Richard (Sharon) Johnson and sister-in-law, Charlotte Hitter; as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Jan was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gary Foss.
