in Best of the Best

REXBURG — The Timberwolves fell to Madison 25-14, 20-25, 15-5, then bounced back to beat Thunder Ridge 27-25, 25-18 and Skyview 20-25, 26-24, 15-12 to open the Best of the Best tournament at Madison High.

“We didn’t have a good first game, and weren’t passing the ball very well in that first set,” Lake City coach Mike Summers said. “We found it in the second set, and lost it again in the third. Madison is comparable to us if we can get our passing going. We played really well against Thunder Ridge, and against Skyview we really scrapped one out. It’s just like a state tournament, and it’s one top team after another. You’ve got to show up and play each game.”

For Lake City, Janae Rayborn had six kills, Jaya Miller nine digs, Nellie Reese seven assists against Madison.

Reese had nine assists, Brenna Hawkins six kills, Rayborn five kills and Miller 11 digs against Thunder Ridge.

Against Skyview, Miller had 24 digs, Reese 17 assists, Kate DuCoeur 13 kills for Lake City (13-5), which concludes pool play today against Bonneville, Century and Timberline.
