Cardinals put stop to Spokane's 62-match win streak

SPOKANE — Lake City High product Chloe Knudson had 15 kills and 30 digs for North Idaho College in a 23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-20, 15-9 Northwest Athletic Conference win over the Community Colleges of Spokane on Friday at Spokane Falls Community College.

Kynzey Mitzel had 40 digs, Hannah McPhetridge 13 kills and Taylor Foster 12 kills and seven blocks for the Cardinals (17-3, 6-0 NWAC), ending Spokane’s winning streak at 62 matches.

“It was such a great win for us at the right time,” NIC coach Kelsey Stanley said. “I’m proud of the girls and how they handled adversity throughout the whole game. The girls never gave up on one another and themselves.”

Journey Tupea had 25 digs and eight kills, Hokulea Vargas 33 assists for NIC, which hosts Blue Mountain on Wednesday at Christianson Gym.

“Our NIC athletic programs all came and supported us, which was so awesome to see,” Stanley said. “It made for a very fun environment. Spokane is a good team, and I’m sure it will be another exciting game next time we play them.”

Brooklyn Rainer had 16 kills for Spokane (22-1, 5-1).
