Kimberly Edmondson steps into the sheriff race
Kimberly Edmondson announced her candidacy for Kootenai County Sheriff.
Edmondson, who is running as a Republican, will face a crowded field of declared candidates in the May 2020 primary.
Edmondson has lived in Kootenai County for more than 30 years and has worked at the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office for more than 27 years.
“I know the inner workings of the Sheriff’s Office, and am committed to providing the community with exceptional law enforcement and other Sheriff’s Office-related services,” she said.
She began her career working at the jail and was actively involved in both jail expansion projects, assisting with design and functionality and in planning the transition for using the new areas.
Edmondson served on patrol and as Detective Division commander during several high-profile cases. “My knowledge of local resources and years of local experience give me excellent insight on how our community can come together in crisis,” she said.
She currently serves as a captain and leads the Investigations and Professional Standards Division. Edmondson attended the FBI National Academy and earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University.
“Through my experience in a variety of command positions throughout the organization, I have developed and managed multimillion-dollar budgets, managed large contracts, and professionally led staff through many changes over the years,” she said.
“As your sheriff, I will protect and serve our community with passion and commitment gained from my deep roots as a Kootenai County resident and leadership gained from years of experience in leadership roles in your Sheriff’s Office,” Edmondson said.
Edmondson and her husband, Andy, — a Coeur d’Alene native — live in the Hayden area. They have been married for more than 20 years. Their adult son and a granddaughter also live in Kootenai County.
