Cards charge, Valdez draws charges

| November 30, 2019 12:00 AM

COEUR d’ALENE — Yusuf Mohammed, who recently signed with Tennessee State, had 23 points and six rebounds off the bench for North Idaho College in a 120-48 win over West Coast Prep on the opening day of the Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational at Rolly Williams Court on Friday.

“Yusuf has been playing really well the last few weeks,” NIC coach Corey Symons said. “He’s been playing aggressive and was able to get out in the passing lanes tonight and had a few breakaway dunks. He’s doing a good job on both ends of the floor, and attacking the basket on offense.”

Symons also commended Ismael Valdez, who drew seven charging fouls in the game.

“He really sparked us defensively,” Symons said. “It was really impressive to see.”

Emmit Taylor III — an Idaho State signee — scored 20 points for NIC (3-0), which hosts Elite Sports Prep tonight at 7:30. Elite Sports beat Wenatchee Valley 81-75 in the early game at NIC.

Roy Bloodsaw scored 15 points off the bench for West Coast Prep.
