CORRIDOR: Eminent domain unfair

| November 29, 2019 12:00 AM

Health Corridor is a nice word to describe another Urban Renewal District (URD) in Coeur d’Alene. The city and private business mingle together again on the back of the taxpayer.

ignitecda aka CDA 2030 aka LCDC with Tony Berns as the executive director will not just profit immensely from the taxpayer but will also be able to enforce eminent domain! Let that sink in my fellow citizens/ Tony Berns, who is not an elected city official, has the power to get you off your property. He doesn’t have to fear any repercussion from the voters. Nobody can touch him or hold him accountable because he is hired by the city and not voted in by the citizens of Coeur d’Alene.

Meanwhile, he collects a huge salary of 154K from the same taxpayers he might force to get off their property one day because they are in the way. How nice!

And here comes the City Council of Coeur d’Alene into play, which has the opportunity to protect the voters. A first good step was taken by City Council Member Dan Gookin when he asked Berns, “Do you guys list anywhere in the plan where the obsolete buildings are?”

And thank you Council Member Dan English for addressing the question of funding. It is a relevant question and of great interest to all taxpayers.

Ronald Reagan said: “An assault on Freedom-Urban Renewal-A further dilution of our private property rights. A program designed to take away from the needy and give to the greedy.”
