Chronic wasting disease found in Montana moose
A moose harvest in northwest Montana not far from Moyie Springs, Idaho, tested positive for chronic wasting disease according to Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.
Test results were confirmed earlier this month by the Montana department. It is the first time the disease has been found in a moose in Montana.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks collected a voluntary sample, which was sent to the Veterinary Diagnostic Lab at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colo., according to a press release. It was tested and confirmed.
So far this year 30 deer in Montana tested positive for CWD. No harvested game animals in Idaho have tested positive.
There is no known transmission of CWD to humans or other animals, including pets or livestock, according to the agency.
