HAYDEN — Doug “Doug O” Okuniewicz announced his candidacy late Tuesday for a House seat in District 2.

The seat is currently held by John Green, who has said he will run for Kootenai County sheriff.

“I want the residents of North Idaho to know that I am a conservative Republican who possesses a deep understanding of legislative processes in Idaho,” Okuniewicz said in a press release. “And, when elected, I commit to work closely with fellow legislators to craft and pass legislation that will help insulate homeowners from the painful side effects of rapid population growth.

“I pledge to fight for local control over the decision to locate a criminal re-entry center in our community, and have already provided the Kootenai County Board of Commissioners with draft language for a new ordinance to accomplish that goal. The re-entry center draft code is scheduled for public discussion by the county commission in the coming days.”

Okuniewicz lives in Hayden with his wife and two children.
