COMP PLAN: Fine as is

| November 27, 2019 12:00 AM

As a 40-plus year resident of the county, I believe the original comp plan of 2010 was very well written and needs no changes. The fact is, developers want more freedom to fill the entire county with housing. The rate towns in the county are annexing in more and more land, it will give the developers plenty of room to build. They don’t need to move in on our land where we have been for many years and enjoy our space. The infrastructure is not in place to handle all of these developments.

Fine, go ahead and shorten the comp plan to make it easier to read, but we need to keep in place the ruling that allows only one house per five acres — nothing more and no variances.

I very much respect the work David Callahan has done for the county. He has been fair and always willing to listen to us at the public meetings. I also respect Karlene Meyer for her stand on the issue especially around the airport where she and her family own the majority of the land. As the developers keep trying to crowd in on the airport and deplete the safety zones, we stand to lose federal funding for the airport.

I encourage you all to keep an eye on some of the shady developers who keep pushing for more freedom to develop. We will continue to fight.
