ART: Public review wanted
Sholeh Patrick’s column of Nov. 21, “Art’s value includes some pain,” was quite eloquently written. A song writer’s art, the singer’s art, paintings of art all evoke feelings of some kind. Street art in any specific community is quite different. Decisions made by an organization consisting of a few volunteers is not representative of our entire community.
Mayor Widmyer’s plan to oversee this organization is commendable. It eliminates taxation without representation, which this volunteer system promotes.
The Arts Commission’s meetings are open to the public. However, they should devote more energy to figuring out how and where to display all the art to the public. This would encourage the public to take advantage of these open meetings to review the art for themselves.
