Bernard M. Vincken, 88

On Nov. 18, 2019, Bernard M.G.L.Vincken, 88, passed away peacefully with family members by his side at Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene. Bernard was born March 23, 1931, in Weert, Netherlands. He spent a major portion of this life living and working in Weert. He went to high school in Roermond and attended Eindhoven Polytechnic College, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. After college, Bernard enlisted in the Dutch Army, Artillery Division. After his time in the service, he worked with his father and brother, Leo, in a family electrical and plumbing business.

Bernard enjoyed travel throughout different countries, as well as many different states in the U.S. He enjoyed camping, watching wildlife and hiking with his son, Jean-Paul. Bernard came to the United States in 1987 and lived in Kirkland, Bothell, and Mill Creek, Wash., before settling in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

Bernard loved playing bridge and was a member of several different bridge clubs in the Netherlands, as well as in Washington. His other passion was watching his beloved country play soccer.

Bernard was preceded in death by his first wife, Christina; his parents; one brother and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Judie, at the family home; his son, JeanPaul (Marian) Vincken of the Netherlands; his extended family: Alan (Jamie) Jennings, Mark (Tami) Oliver, Donald Oliver and Melissa (Dan) Garland; sister, Mia Vincken-Gruijthuijsen of the Netherlands; sister-in-law, Phily Vincken-Giesen of the Netherlands; grandchildren Shane (Shannon), Dereck, Kaeli, Johnny, Dalan, Deagan, Ashley and Allyx; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, as well as his faithful four-legged pet, Jasmine.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2019, at the Lutheran Church of the Master, 4800 N. Ramsey Road, Coeur d’Alene, with a reception to follow.
