Post Falls defense clamps down on Timberlake
POST FALLS — Dylan Lovett scored 12 points and the 5A Post Falls Trojans opened their season by pulling away in the second half for a 42-28 victory over the Timberlake Tigers in nonleague girls basketball action Tuesday night at The Arena.
Post Falls led by eight points midway through the fourth quarter, when three steals by Katie Fleming led to baskets that helped the Trojans pull away.
Taryn Soumas scored 13 points, Brooke Jessen 10 for Timberlake (1-1), which has finished third or higher at the state 3A tournament in eight of the last nine years.
“Defensively we played really well; between Soumas and Jessen, they have a couple of the best players around,” Post Falls coach Marc Allert said. “Dylan Lovett did a great job of containing Soumas all night long. And it was defense by committee on Jessen. Kennedy LaFountaine battled her all night, and we had a lot of weakside help.”
Timberlake plays host to Sandpoint on Thursday.
Post Falls is home vs. Sandpoint on Saturday.
