IMPEACHMENT: What process tells us

| November 20, 2019 12:00 AM

I would like to thank all those who represent Idaho, and especially Rep. Fulcher, who emailed me eight observations regarding the Trump impeachment inquiry. Although there are many times I am astonished by President Trump’s words and behavior toward others, I recognize the sentiments Mr. Fulcher has expressed to his constituents.

It is important that Idahoans/Americans do not perceive impeachment as a partisan process; impeachment is a Constitutional protection provided by the Fathers of this country against any who defy the duties they have sworn to defend in their oath of office.

I have read the Mueller Report and watched the televised impeachment inquiry so far. The result is a strengthening of my faith in America, and especially those who serve it. The future of this country is dependent on those who speak truth and defend the Constitution.

Before the testimonies from Foreign Service State Department employees, I thought about brave soldiers and those in the military primarily defending America. Now, I am humbled by seeing those serving in non-military positions give heartfelt witness to truth in defense of our country and Constitution.

As the impeachment inquiry proceeds, it is not whether you are a Republican, Democrat, Independent, Capitalist, Socialist or Elitist — it is important that you are an American willing to stand up for the privileges our forefathers bestowed upon this great country. Whether President Trump is upholding or violating his oath of office will take months to ascertain. I hope all representatives in Congress honor their oath of office to support and defend the Constitution for all Americans.
