Zoell Mary (Fortier) McKenzie
Zoell Mary (Fortier) McKenzie passed away on Nov. 14, 2019. She was born May 23, 1937, in St. Paul, Minn. She attended school in North St. Paul.
Zoell married Dennis McKenzie on Aug. 30, 1958. They had eight children together.
She was very active in church and church functions. Zoell was in charge of funeral dinners at St. Pius X Catholic Church, in Coeur d’Alene, for several years. She was a Catholic Daughter and was a member of The Divine Mercy Group. She served on the St. Vincent de Paul Board, as well.
Zoell was a Gonzaga Bulldogs fan.
She worked at the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift store, Ace Hardware on Sherman Avenue and had a typing service — all while helping her husband with bookkeeping and payroll.
Zoell loved to read and knit. She was a mother to not only her children, but many other people too! She loved being a mother and loved babies and children.
Her husband, Denny, died on Dec. 16, 1999. She missed him so much and couldn’t wait to be with him again. They loved going out dancing together. Now she can dance with Denny again.
Zoell is preceded in death by her husband, Denny; her sons, Ron and Dave; her parents and her younger brother, Bill Fortier.
Zoell is survived by her sons Greg (Jackie), Dan, Steve (Kari) and Keith; her daughters Sharon and Julie; her grandchildren Anthony, Marcus, Josh, Gracie and Kristi and her brother, Leo (Joy) Fortier.
