FAIRGROUNDS: Save 4H sanctuary
This letter is addressing the County Commissioners’ plan to build a justice building on the Kootenai County Fairgrounds property.
I was fortunate enough to be born and raised here in Kootenai County. The fairgrounds has been a huge part of my life ever since I was a baby. My parents were volunteer 4H leaders here starting in 1969.
The fair and the amount of people has drastically changed since those days, but the one thing that has stayed the same is our beautiful historic fairgrounds. I am a current 4-H leader and have three children showing livestock. It is getting very crowded at the fair every year and there is very little room for parking as it is. My biggest concern with taking part of the property for additional county buildings is that there will no longer be room for the 4-H livestock.
The highlight of the year for most 4Hers is exhibiting their projects at the fair. The community has been hugely supportive of the 4-H program throughout the years. My hope is that my children and the generations to come will still be encouraged to be a part of the beautiful and historic Kootenai County Fairgrounds.
