CARTOON: Don't give hate a mic

Your recent Sunday edition featuring a defense of Brannan’s racist cartoon’s publication and his accompanying rant require a spirited response. Do we need to say it louder for people in the back? Racism is not representative of Coeur d’Alene. And frankly, if that cartoon is representative of Conservative humor, it’s probably time for a Come to Jesus moment.

The one thing talented, bright people across America know about this city is its ties to racism. Your Sunday paper simply reinforced that opinion. The national narrative around Coeur d’Alene needs to change. And it starts with resounding, strong denunciations — not giving hate charading as Conservatism a microphone.
