PORTLAND — Phillip Malatare had 16 points, seven rebounds and five assists as North Idaho College held off the host Portland Panthers in the Harold Williams Invitational on Saturday.

Yusuf Mohammed had 16 points and 12 rebounds off the bench for NIC (2-0), which returns to action in the Best Western Coeur d’Alene Inn-vitational on Nov. 29 against West Coast Prep.

Daniel Horbuckle scored 13 points for Portland (1-1).

COEUR d’ALENE — Lake City High product Keara Simpson scored 18 points for the Cardinals in a win over the North Idaho All-Stars at Rolly Williams Court.

Alex Carlton scored 10 points for North Idaho in its season opener. NIC returns to action in the Coca-Cola Invitational next Friday in Twin Falls, facing Utah State-Eastern at 12:30 p.m.

Natalie Nichols, the Lakeland High product who played at NIC from 2007-09, scored 10 points for the North Idaho All-Stars.
