Cardinals hit the boards, win opener

PORTLAND — Sophomores Joey Naccarato and Jaden Dewar scored 23 points each — two of four North Idaho College players with at least 20 points — in a 116-92 season-opening win over the Chemeketa Storm at the Harold Williams Invitational at Portland Community College on Friday.

Yusuf Mohammed had 22 points and 13 rebounds and Emmit Taylor III 20 points for NIC, coached by George Swanson as head coach Corey Symons serves a 10-game suspension against Northwest Athletic Conference teams.

NIC outrebounded Chemeketa 42-19, finishing with 19 on the offensive end.

Jaloni Garner scored 32 points for Chemeketa.

NIC concludes tournament play against host Portland tonight at 8.
