- A new Idaho law requires drivers to carry vehicle insurance for two consecutive months to avoid having their registration suspended. The Division of Motor Vehicles will monitor monthly the status of registered vehicles’ insurance coverage, excluding commercial vehicles, trailers and off-highway vehicles. Uninsured motorists will be warned and have 30 days to show proof of insurance to avoid suspension. For reinstations, drivers will need to show proof of insurance and pay a $75 fine. The new law will go into effect in January. Learn more at itd.idaho.gov/driveidaho.
