NIC’s Tupea earns
NWAC volleyball honors
North Idaho College freshman outside hitter Journey Tupea was named Northwest Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Tupea, from Bingham High in South Jordan, Utah, had 33 kills on a 47% kill efficiency in six sets last week to go with three blocks, 20 digs, an ace and a 2.35 serve-receive on 25 passes.
“Journey had an outstanding week offensively, hitting for a high percentage in both matches with very little errors,” NIC coach Kelsey Stanley said in an NWAC news release. “She was the most vocal player on the court this week and also had a steady serve-receive game.”
Vandalism forces NWAC to
alter soccer championships
Due to electrical vandalism that has occurred at Starfire Stadium in Tukwila, Wash., over the past three days, the Northwest Athletic Conference was forced to reschedule this weekend’s soccer championships so all games occur during daylight hours.
In light of the changes, the conference also canceled the all-star games, scheduled for Saturday, so the semifinals could be played in daylight.
North Idaho College sophomore defender Jacob Luhrs was selected for the men’s all-star game.
On Sunday, the women’s championship is scheduled for 11 a.m., followed by the men’s title game at 2 p.m.
