Hal Bluford Harrison Cooper, Jr.

Hal Bluford Harrison Cooper, Jr., age 79, a resident of Coeur d’Alene, died Oct. 25, 2019, at the Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House in Coeur d’Alene.

Hal was born Feb. 19, 1940, in Ames, Iowa, to Hal Sr. and Zerelda (Nicholson) Cooper.

Hal had a doctorate degree in chemical engineering and was a professor at Texas A&M University at College Station, Texas, then at the University of Texas in Austin. He then moved to New Mexico, where he worked at Los Alamos for one year, followed by consulting work in Kirkland, Wash., including at Hanford.

Hal and his wife, Carol, belonged to the University Presbyterian Church in Seattle before moving to Coeur d’Alene last month.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; son and daughter-in-law, Courtney and Clarissa, in St. Paul, Minn.; son, Eric, in Coeur d’Alene; six grandchildren: Gemma, Miriam, Gianna, Zelie, Celia and Aiden Cooper; and two brothers, Robert and Douglas, both in southern California. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sharon Cooper.
