TRANSIT: Hub promises kept

| November 8, 2019 12:00 AM

I would like to thank Commissioner Filios and Amber Conklin for staying true to their word in the development of this facility. While a few loud voices complain this facility isn’t useful to the public or what they thought it would be, of the 400 people a day on Citylink, a fraction of those utilize this transit hub.

Please keep in mind there are now thousands living around this facility, including a senior facility immediately across the street and a well used Centennial Trail on the other side. Many of us living in the area expressed our concerns about the potential draw of homeless and vagrants in the area if bathrooms and indoor areas were to remain open. I will say, with the new building there have certainly been more vagrants loitering in the area and on our properties. I’m a frequent user of the trail, and rarely a day goes by I don’t see someone sleeping under the overpasses or in the woods along the trail since the county began construction on this facility.

So while a few of you want to complain that you can’t lounge while waiting for your bus, remember the others of us who live here. We don’t want these conveniences in the transit service so close to our residences and the unfortunate consequences of these types of places.

I’d also like to thank the Coeur d’Alene police for stepping up patrols in the area since the opening of the facility.
